The Introductory Mandarin course is designed for students with little to no prior knowledge of Mandarin Chinese. Our experienced instructors will guide you through the basics of the language, including pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure. You’ll learn how to introduce yourself, greet others, ask and answer simple questions, and engage in basic conversations in Mandarin.
In addition to language instruction, the course will also introduce you to some of the key cultural aspects of Mandarin Chinese, including customs, traditions, and etiquette. You’ll gain a better understanding of the rich history and culture of Taiwan, and develop a deeper appreciation for the language as you learn to speak it.

The Intermediate Mandarin course is designed for students who have already developed basic proficiency in Mandarin and are looking to expand their knowledge and fluency.
In our Intermediate Mandarin course, you will learn more complex grammar and sentence structures, as well as new vocabulary and idioms. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to practice your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills through a variety of activities.
Furthermore, our course will also provide you with a deeper understanding of Taiwanese culture and society, helping you to better communicate and engage with native Mandarin speakers. By the end of the course, you will be well-equipped to handle a wide range of everyday situations, as well as navigate more complex business interactions.
Summer 2023 Semester: Intermediate Mandarin Theme-based
The Intermediate theme-based course will cover the following topics: Dieting (食), Accommodation (住), Transportation (行), Recreation (樂), and any other topics related to your daily life. Here are some examples of what you can expect to learn:
- Mandarin for Foodies-Exploring Chinese Cuisine: Learn how to read and understand Chinese recipes to cook your favorite dishes.
- Home Sweet Home-Mandarin for Housing and Accommodation: Learn how to communicate effectively with landlords and real estate agents, and understand housing-related vocabulary.
- Fun in Mandarin-Movies, Hobbies, and Entertainment: Learn how to talk about your favorite movies, TV shows, hobbies, and entertainment activities in Mandarin.
